Simply put, I could not have done this without all the help from my family and friends. I have been stationed overseas for the duration of this project making it very difficult to coordinate all the moving parts. They helped me with shipping the prototypes to different locations, providing critical user feedback for the knife and campaign, and much more.

I'm in love with nature and exploring the great outdoors! I also have a knack for design and inventing, so I am combining my two passions to create innovative outdoor utility for the modern adventurist!

I am a bit of a perfectionist, and It may have gotten the best of me on this project. A blessing and a curse indeed, but I have learned to have patience with myself, and a few have learned to be patient with me... Because in the end, the final product is sooo worth it!

I met Chase through Todd. I never worked with him before and was a little hesitant bringing him on. But then I saw a video he produced titled, “Tribe of the Trees”... Right then, I was sold! I was inspired not only by his stunning visuals and engaging action shots, but the message and intent behind his work.

His creativity, professionalism, and passion for nature allowed us to not just show you CacheBlade, but to tell you the story.

It was a no-brainer bringing Todd on to help with the campaign. With his knowledge and expertise in the wild, not only did he play the main role in the campaign video, he field tested the CacheBlade and provided crucial feedback for the final revisions.

His passion for exploration, the outdoors, and innovation is the epitome of the company's culture and vision for the campaign.

Evolution

2015

It all started about 10 years ago. I was working in my father’s machine shop, doing production work, but I wanted to create something of my own. Ever since I was a child, I’ve had a passion for collecting knives—each one telling a unique story. That’s when I decided I would write my own story by designing a knife. I spent countless hours on manual machines to create what became a “Frankenstein” of a tube-handle knife that you see in the first photo. Ugly, but I was proud of it, and so were those around me. But at that point, I had no idea where to go next. 

2020-2022

After many designs and inventions—some great ideas, some not—none of them ever reached the public. I was working in construction at the time, feeling burnt out, and my dream of becoming a successful inventor or business owner seemed to hit dead ends. That’s when I decided to try something new and travel the world, so I joined the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. During basic training, I made a promise to myself: I would pick one idea, one design, and see it through—whether it succeeded or failed. No longer having access to my father’s machine shop, I bought a 3D printer, taught myself CAD, and began prototyping my ideas. When I arrived at my first duty station in the UK, I immediately got to work. I completed a fully functional metal prototype that worked well. I sent the design to various companies hoping for a licensing deal, but none of them bit. It was discouraging, and I began to question whether I should continue. Then, during a conversation with my father while I was on leave, he mentioned something he’d seen on “Forged in Fire.” He explained that a tube-handle knife makes it nearly impossible for the user to index the blade edge properly—since the handle is symmetrical, there’s no way to feel how the blade is oriented in your hand. That’s when it hit me: the tube-handle knife had died out in the ’80s for a reason. I was trying to revive something that wasn’t meant to be. Discouraged, I took a step back and started rethinking the design. How could I create a hollow-handle knife for survival storage that was ergonomic and had removable scales, all without needing tools? That's when I came up with the design in the photos below and I also applied for my first utility patent!

2022-2024

I arrived at my second duty station in Okinawa, Japan. I took some time off to get settled in and really just take a break from everything. But eventually, I got the itch again and started prototyping again. As you can see, the first version of the CacheBlade was quite different from the final product you see today. I went through countless 3D-printed prototypes to perfect both the function and form of the knife handle. Finding a shop to help with prototyping and OEM production was another steep learning curve. After almost a year of searching, I finally decided to go with Reate Knives. They helped me prototype the fully functional knife and the Kydex sheath. With only two rounds of prototyping, we had the final product dialed in—and I couldn’t be happier with the results! They truly did help bring my design to life!

Present Day

Now I’m gearing up to launch the CacheBlade on instinict.com. It’s my first-ever product launch, and I’m nervous—but in a good way! I can’t wait to share the CacheBlade with all of you and see the many adventures it will become a part of! Wish me luck and as always, stay wild... and stay innovative!!!
